FORT MYERS, Fla. — Moderna is one step closer to allowing more children to roll up their sleeves for a COVID-19 vaccine.
Their most recent clinical trial — involving more than 3,700 people — showed a 100 percent vaccine effectiveness in the group that was vaccinated. After the first dose, the vaccine was found to be 93 percent effective against infection.
Moderna officials said that their vaccine is “safe and highly effective” in 12 to 17 year olds.

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Students aged 12 to 17 will be able to get vaccinated at Port Charlotte Middle School on Saturday.
The Charlotte County Department of Health is offering vaccinations for students 12 to 17 on Saturday, May 22, at Port Charlotte Middle School from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Only Charlotte County Public School students will be able to get a shot.
The DOH will be offering the Pfizer vaccine, which is the only shot approved by the FDA for people under 18.

A COVID-19 booster vaccine, when authorized, will likely be needed within a year following initial vaccination, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, said Wednesday.
“I believe it likely will be within a year,” Fauci said during an Axios interview on vaccine rollout.
