Less than 24 hours after Commissioner of Agriculture Democrat Nikki Fried filed to run for governor, a Republican senator wants to dig into her finances. That senator is chairman of the Republican Party Joe Gruters.  He claims Fried earned far more than she first reported. He’s asking Naples Republican Senator Kathleen Passidomo-Dist. 28, who chairs the state rules committee to investigate further. “The complaint alleges that she improperly took or didn’t report funds from her lobbying firm,” Passidomo said. She is urging Florida voters to try something new since the state has never had a woman as governor. Fried is Florida’s only statewide elected democrat. Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried has joined the governor’s race. According to the Florida Department of State, Fried filed for candidacy on June 1 for the 2022 General Election. Fried, who is a Democrat, has long been hinting at running for governor and has been one of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ fiercest critics. In 2018, Fried was the only Democrat to win a statewide election, and she is currently the only Democrat in DeSantis’ cabinet.
