IMMOKALEE, Fla. – A brush fire sparked near State Road 29 in Immokalee Tuesday growing up to 200 acres, according to the Florida Forestry Service.
The fire is currently 95 percent contained as crews work to extinguish the blaze.

Witnesses said farm equipment was also damaged in the fire.

IMMOKALEE, Fla. — The Immokalee Fire Control District is in the process of building a new facility.
The new building will be on Useppa Drive in Ave Maria. It will house the fire rescue department as well as administrative employees.
Rescue crews with Collier County EMS and the Collier County Sheriff’s Office will be able to share the space.
Construction is expected to be complete by mid-August.

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – One person was shot in an Immokalee neighborhood near 3rd Street and Eustis Avenue Saturday evening.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the person shot was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Crime scene tape is wrapped around a home located at 407 S 3rd Street. Deputies said this started as a neighbor dispute and was called in at 6:23 p.m.
Collier County deputies said they don’t have a suspect in custody.

IMMOKALEE, Fla. – One of the wells with The Immokalee Water and Sewer District tested positive for E. coli contamination.
The Immokalee Water and Sewer District said they are notifying customers in the area that the water system detected fecal indicators (E. coli) in one of the wells from a sample collected on Wednesday.
The well was removed from service after testing positive for E. coli, according to officials.
All other wells sampled on Wednesday are absent of the fecal indicators. Officials said the water system will be using its other wells to serve customers and meet water demands....
IMMOKALEE, Fla. – Investigators are asking for information on an unsolved Collier County murder from nearly 18 years ago.
According to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, the body of Catalina Lechuga was found near Rose Avenue and East Delaware Avenue in Immokalee in 2003.
A deputy with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office discovered the 39-year-old’s body in a wooded-area after they were flagged down by someone who found the body, officials said.
Investigators said Lechuga had died from multiple stab wounds.
