Local non-profit collecting plywood to help homeowners prepare for hurricanes

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – As the price for plywood skyrockets due to supply and demand issues, a local non-profit is making sure residents have what they need to protect their homes from hurricanes this year. Marco Patriots wants to help people who may not be able to afford plywood this year be able to board up their homes for a hurricane. The non-profit is collecting plywood and monetary donations. The world could reach a climate tipping point in the next five years

CNN — There is now a 40 percent chance that the annual average global temperature will temporarily reach a crucial tipping point in at least one of the next five years, according to the World Meteorological Organization. The tipping point is described as a 1.5 degrees Celsius temperature increase above pre-industrial levels. The WMO added that the chances of the threshold being breached are increasing as time goes on. Hurricane season likely to be another above-average year, NOAA says

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The 2021 Atlantic hurricane season is likely to be above-average according to forecasters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  The administration released their seasonal outlook this afternoon calling for 13 to 20 named storms, six to 10 hurricanes, and three to five major hurricanes. A major hurricane is defined as any tropical weather system that reaches Category 3 strength or higher on the Saffir-Simpson Scale regardless if it impacts land or not.   As of this year, an average hurricane season statistics in the Atlantic includes 14 named...
