Punta Gorda walking bridge destroyed by suspected drunk driver

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – A mangled mess of metal is all that’s left of a walking bridge after a hit-and-run crash in Punta Gorda. Punta Gorda police report the walking bridge at the end of West Retta Esplanade was struck by a suspected drunk driver. The location is between Gilchrist Park and Fisherman’s Village. Barricades currently block pedestrians and cyclists from venturing on the path. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Just minutes after a 6:30 a.m. crash in Daytona Beach on Wednesday, a teen got out of his car and took off down the road on foot, leaving the other driver at the scene, police said. The Daytona Beach Police Department Aviation Unit quickly launched two drones, as ground units and K9s went in search of the hit and run suspect. The drones were able to located 17-year-old Trenton Hunt, who was running through a parking lot on Mason Avenue, police said.
