DURHAM, N.C. / CNN — A North Carolina high school student-athlete is demanding an end to hair discrimination after she said she was forced to cut her hair during a game.
On April 19, sophomore Nicole Pyles was playing a game of softball at Hillside High School.
“The umps came up to my coach asking about my beads. I was just like, well, it’s fine. I’ll tuck them and put them away,” she said.
It was the top of the second inning when she said her team was winning, and the umpire noticed her knotless braids with beads. It’s a style Pyles said she’s worn to other games.
