FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. – A woman from Fort Myers Beach said bacteria is destroying her legs after she jumped into the Gulf of Mexico at Fort Myers Beach for a swim.
The bacteria is called Vibrio Vulnificus, and it’s common in the Gulf during the summer months, experts said.
Michelle Schrowe said she got it after going swimming with freshly shaved legs.

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. – An electrical hazard caused a small home fire on Dundee Road in Fort Myers Beach on Wednesday, officials said.
Crews responded to the home at 10:30 a.m. to respond to the hazard, which ended up being a fire, according to the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department.
The home sustained minimal damage because of a Residential Fire Sprinkler System the owners installed during a home renovation a few years back, crews said.
No one was injured, and the homeowners’ pets were safely located.

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — A car that slammed into a fire hydrant caused a major water leak on Fort Myers Beach on Memorial Day, officials said.
The flooding stopped both directions of traffic near the Big Carlos Pass on Estero Boulevard for over half an hour. Some people were seen getting out of their cars while waiting on the bridge.
Officials with the Town of Fort Myers Beach said that water pressure in the town was reduced from 8350 Estero Blvd to Island Ends, including Estrelita.

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. – A large fight on Fort Myers Beach led to one shot being fired Monday afternoon, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
During a busy Memorial Day celebration on the beach, multiple people began fighting on the beachside of Avenue C before a shot rang out, deputies said. Crime scene tape can be seen blocking off a portion of the beach.
No one was injured in the shooting.
Deputies are investigating the incident. A large law enforcement presence was seen lining the streets on Fort Myers Beach.
