SOUTHWEST FLORIDA – Memorial Day weekend marked the start of a dangerous time for young drivers nationwide.
More than 30 percent of deaths involving teen drivers occur during what’s called the “100 deadliest days,” which runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).
“Teens are celebrating graduations, out of school in the summer time, potentially driving more, have more free time, which could lead to making a bad choice behind the wheel,” said Lt. Greg Bueno with the Florida Highway Patrol.

FORT MYERS, Fla.– An interesting tow job caught the attention of drivers on Colonial Boulevard over the weekend.
A video taken from a nearby car’s passenger seat shows a the front bumper of a green car connected to the back bumper of a white car, pushing it down the busy boulevard.
In the nearly two minute long video, the two cars separate as they near a stop light before connecting to push the car again at the stoplight.
While some who travel the busy road daily find the video comical, the Florida Highway Patrol doesn’t.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A child was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car on Eighth Avenue in Pine Manor Thursday.
Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the child was seriously injured.
The child has been taken to Lee Memorial hospital, according to South Trail Fire Department.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A crash involving a dump truck left traffic delayed for hours on I-75 in Fort Myers on Wednesday.
Florida Highway Patrol said the 54-year-old driver has minor injuries after the crash and was cited for careless driving.
The dump truck, which was fully loaded with gravel, was going north in the outside lane of I-75 north near Colonial Boulevard, according to troopers. The front right tired of the dump truck went onto the east shoulder.

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – A Collier County deputy was injured in a crash on Pine Ridge Road and Logan Boulevard late Friday night.
Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash and is investigating.
An SUV was also involved in the crash, according to witnesses.
