Two horses killed in back-to-back DeSoto County crashes

DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. – Two horses were killed in two separate crashes just before midnight in DeSoto County Saturday. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a man was riding a horse trying to cross US 17 near State Road 35 when a car hit the pair leaving the horse dead and the man in critical condition. Shortly after, another horse escaped a nearby enclosure after a gate was left open and wandered onto the road, troopers said. The second horse was also hit and killed by a passing vehicle. DeSoto County infant youngest to die from COVID-19 in Florida

DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. [WPTV] – An infant under died from coronavirus in DeSoto County, the Florida Department of Health reported Tuesday. The agency’s county report lists the child, with no sex given, as from DeSoto County, a population of 184,945. Ninety-five people have died from the virus in the county. Twelve juveniles have died from COVID-19, according to the DOH. Before the infant’s death, a 4-year-old girl from Hardee County was the youngest reported death in the state. She passed away in March. DeSoto County home to new FPL solar energy center

DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. — When it comes to renewable energy, DeSoto County is the solar power host with the most. Florida Power & Light Company recently finished construction of the new Rodeo Solar Energy Center. The completion of the project makes DeSoto County home to more FPL solar energy centers than any other county in the state. The new energy center adds nearly 300,000 solar panels to the Sunshine State’s power harnessing grid.
