Man dies after construction accident at Charlotte County marina

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – A 53-year old man died after a construction accident Friday morning off of Boca Grande Causeway in Charlotte County.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they were conducting a death investigation after the incident around 9:25 a.m. at Eldred’s Marina, 6301 Boca Grande Causeway. Otis Long Jr. was the man that died while working to deploy a small crane on the property.

The man was part of a work crew in the area. He unhooked a pin from the crane that was supporting a boom, according to Charlotte County deputies.

The boom fell on top of the man. Lifesaving saving efforts were in progress for the man before investigators arrived on scene.

No one else was injured.

This is a developing story.
