Forecast: Rainy season finally kicks in
Happy Sunday Southwest Florida! Like yesterday we are waking up to more humid air compared to last weekend, but unlike yesterday, this humidity will actually fuel chances for rain this afternoon! You can still get outside today as the morning will be mainly dry.
A few isolated showers are possible near the coast, but the morning is basically going to be muggy and dry. By lunchtime, our seabreeze will start to develop just east of I-75 before pushing toward Lake Okeechobee. This means our best chance for storms will be east of I-75 out toward the Lake during the late afternoon until sunset. If you have a beach day planned, that should get underway with no major issues, but if you’re boating on the Lake, be weather aware today and know when to head back to dock.
The storms could be strong to severe, with the main threat expected being very gusty winds. High temperatures before the rain arrives will be very seasonal, in the low 90s.
Memorial Day itself will also be a stormy one, but only during the second half of the day. If you’re up early to attend memorial services to honor fallen service members, those should be able to get underway with no issues from the weather. East winds will keep us mainly sunny and dry through lunchtime, but a few hours after lunch watch for storms to develop along and west of Highway 41; basically if you have a beach day planned, or will be boating in the Gulf, know where you can go to wait out these storms when they get going.
The rest of the week features much of the same as our rainy season pattern has finally kicked into high gear! Every afternoon expect our daily rain and storm chances, with the best chances over our most populated communities for much of the week ahead. Yo
