Convicted Lee County sex offender sentenced for possessing child sex abuse images
LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A Lehigh Acres man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday for possessing child sex abuse images and videos, according to the Department of Justice.
Steven Thomas Baryla, 39, accessed the material on the internet and social media, the DOJ reported. Homeland Security Investigations conducted a search warrant of his home on June 20, 2019 and found more than 106 images and 10 videos.
Baryla’s search history included questions like “best state for sex offenders to live 2017” and “registered sex offender name change,” according to the DOJ.
He pleaded guilty on January 14, 2021.
Baryla was previously convicted on federal charges of transporting child pornography in New Jersey in 2011, officials said.
