Community lends helping hand to family who lost home in brush fire
COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Over a week has passed since a brush fire decimated their home and the Perez family is still picking up the pieces.
“We’re sleeping and we’re just trying to piece everything back together as we go along,” Johnathan Perez said.
The brush fire, that ignited on 14th Avenue, left behind ash, burnt debris and damaged memories.
Their house has been 90 percent gutted all because of the love and support from their community, who volunteered their time this past weekend to lend a helping hand.
“People came out to help us, donating whatever they could, trying to make it as easy as they could on us and we are very grateful for that,” Perez said.
“Our community has really pulled together like a family it’s been amazing,” Tracy Perez said.
On Monday, even more neighbors stepped in by cooking and handing out plates of food to raise money for the Perez’s.
“What happened to the house and everything just hit me and I just wanted to do something about it,” neighbor and family friend Jessica Tinajero said.
