Cape Coral officials work to find solution after a series of drunk driver crashes

CAPE CORAL, Fla.– A Cape Coral homeowner is asking City officials to make the safety improvements in her neighborhood after a suspected drunk driver crashed into her home.

The driver crashed into Lauri Langone’s home off Southeast 20th Court several weeks ago.

A Cape Coral City spokesperson said there have been five crashes at or near this property. At least three of those crashes were related to drunk driving.

“I am counting on you guys to help me stay in my little house that I love, please help me make it safe,” Langone said.

At the council meeting, Langone suggested adding rumble strips to the road to help slow drivers down. However, City Officials worried that might not be the best option due to high maintenance requirements, noise issues for the neighborhood and obstacles for bicyclists.

City officials said they plan to meet with Langone to find a safe solution.
