Brooke Sweat of Fort Myers misses qualifications for Tokyo Olympics
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Brooke Sweat of Fort Myers and her partner Kerri Walsh Jennings were eliminated from Olympic contention Wednesday, NBC Sports reports.
The pair needed to finish third or better in Ostrava to have any chance for the second and final US Olympic beach volleyball spot.
They lost a qualifying match to a Dutch team and did not make it to the main draw of 32 teams.
The Dutch team has not made it the round of 16 in five top-level events this year, NBC Sports reports.
The last time Jennings and Sweat made the semifinals of a top-level tournament was in August 2019.
“It’s a terrible, terrible feeling,” Walsh Jennings said after the match. “It’s been a really rough year, and to lose in a qualifier, it feels really hard right now.”
