70-year-old stolen tortoise recovered by deputies

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. / CNN — A stolen tortoise was returned to its rightful owner on Monday, officials said.

Deputies with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office were investigating stolen packages on Portola Drive when they identified Israel Santos, 28, as a suspect.

Santos allegedly had stolen packages and the stolen reptile in his possession, deputies said.

The tortoise, named Irving, was returned to his family who has owned him since 1960. Irving is estimated to be about 70 years old.’
